Returning to prayer

2 weeks ago we carted 9 WVU students to out summer Chapter Focus Week camp. This is a time for IV chapters to come together for training in many areas and to pray together in seeking God for next steps in ministry for the coming year. As we planned and talked about where God was calling us individually and as a chapter whole, there was an overwhelming overlap of returning to prayer.

In the past, we admitted, we often looked to our selves and others in the chapter for direction and advice. We would pray in out small groups, and have a prayer meeting or two during the week. This was revealed as unacceptable. InterVarsity was founded on the knees of our past spiritual leaders and planters of the organization. Not only that, but God calls as as Christians to be in constant prayer, to seek HIM out, not the minds and ideals of man, but God. We owned up to our faults and lack of prayer. But we didn't leave it there.

What is confession without true repentance and a spiritual turning point of action?

On our recognition we began to pray. During meetings at CFW a student wouldn't often speak up if there was a spirit of confusion, frustration, or hindrance in the room, and we would stop and pray. As we made plans for the next semester the students decided to make a commitment to praying as God is calling our chapter to do. This has grown into 5 prayer meetings a week, 2 being very early in the morning; having more intentional prayer times during out small groups and large group meetings, as well as personal devotion to prayer, as well as individual and corporate fasting.

I believe God has inspired the WVU students to dream big and creatively for how he wants us to move forward next year, and it is all to be foundationally moved and acted on through prayer. I ask that as we take up a new found sense of sacrificially and incarnationally living for Jesus, that you would join us in praying for the work God is greatly moving in at WVU.
