Day 2

Today counts for day 2 of the hunger outreach. I will confess, as I missed the prayer meeting to fix some minor crisis for the evening event, ran out of quarters for the meter, and getting my socks and shoes soaked in freezing cold melting slush, I didn't expect much to happen. The station in the Cathedral where we had shared the gospel with so many the day before, was nearly dead today. There was very little traffic anywhere and I suspect many students skipped class because of the weather. I really didn't know what to expect.

I was going to give you a nice picture and tell you stories of the day, but frankly I am tired and need to wake up in the morning...but with all that happened today I feel I need to share, so I'll make it brief.

Tonight was the hunger meal (which was my charge to take care of...although Chloe helped me a lot). We were excited to see who would come and what God was going to do. Johnathan Walton (our speaker who is a spoken word artist and talented poet) was able to make it from NY, and from talking with him and some others, we knew God was going to do something. The time came for people to start showing up. By the time we started we had about 25 students come (most from Pitt and CMU InterVarsity). This was actually really disheartening. We were hoping for 50-100 students, so it was sad to not see any more than we did show up.

We continued on with the evening, we ate the corn mush prorridge discussed story cards, and Johnathan spoke a wonderful word of Jesus and Hunger. At the end of his talk he had a call to faith. From our humble group we had 2 girls (one being our president's roommate who we've been praying for) make decisions to follow Jesus. We rejoiced as we ended the evening, and I knew all we put into this evening (even though we had small numbers) it was completely worth it.

Later at our debrief meeting we shared about the day. Here is a run down of today...

in addition to the 2 girls, another girl came to faith at a Proxe station and there were at least 2 other contact cards that were filled out at the hunger dinner that were filled at as people who had accepted Christ for the 1st time. That's roughly 4 or 5 new Christians today!!!

44 people heard the gospel at the proxe stations...almost twice as much as yesterday, despite the slow traffic today.

We were able to raise about $135 by selling forks from our fork graveyard which will go towards world vision and hunger advocacy.

So despite my early bad attitude God moved today we didn't even expect. Prayers are being answered, walls are being broken down, and lives are being changed! Thank you for praying...and keep on it as we enter our final day of outreach and prep for our main event and gospel presentation. Please pray that people will be curious and come to this event that they may hear the gospel and be saved.
