The past couple of weeks have been great! I am starting to get a little comfortable in my area of town, I am enjoying trying new churches and seeing how different people worship and teach, and I haven't gotten lost in 3 weeks!!! Not to mention I was able to go home this weekend and see my family and friends for the 1st time in a month. But the best part of all is the ministry that is being done on the campus...
I have been enjoying my job with InterVarsity from the beginning, and more so now that I am on campus, but last week was exceptionally awesome. Monday morning we have team prayer for all the staff workers at Pitt and CMU. Because one staff was off getting married, one was with family, and the other 2 still in Michigan, it left Amy (CMU staff) and me in the prayer meeting. We weren't sure how to go about praying since the week before was fairly structured. We decided to just start praying, and God took it from there. For about 45 minutes we were in the presence of the Lord interceding for our campuses. Once we were done we just sat there and I told Amy it was going to be a good week, and she smiled and nodded in agreement.
Little did we know what God had planned...
Tuesday night Beth Roselius came to Pitt from WVU to speak on quiet time and hearing God's voice. At the end she had a creative alter call, where if someone wanted to accept Jesus and follow him then they were to look at her (all eyes were closed) and eat a piece of chocolate. Beth later reported to me that 2 girls (Joanna and Liana) did this. We were very excited that we had two new members of God's kingdom, but a little disappointed that they left before we could talk to them.
The next day I held our 1st women's small group. 2 of our student leaders had come, and we were sitting and talking and enjoying some brownies and pocky when 2 more girls came and joined us. After they said their names I realized these are the same 2 girls who made a comitment to Christ the night before! Liana and Joanna came to the study, and not only just came, but we all talked with each other and they participated in the study. It was a wonderful evening of fellowship and sharing in our lesson together.
I wish I had a picture for you so you could put faces to the names...maybe I can at sometime, but please keep these girls in your prayers that they will continue to join us for teaching, and fellowship, and that God will show me how to disciple them.
That was just a snipet of the week. We also had a great Mark study, as well as a fellowship night for girls and guys, and a leadership meeting with student leaders, where they have been sharing their hearts for ministry. one of the leaders (Kaley) is planing on going to Spain next semester to study abroad and do a possible mission trip in Tanzania. She also wants to go into the mission field once she graduates and teach English as a 2nd language in Spanish speaking countries.
God is truly moving in the hearts of our students. Thank you for praying!
